Differences between PPTP and L2TP:
PPTP is very easy to setup. It can be used to bypass all Internet restrictions, but it is considered less secure. The Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol is considered broken and therefore, from a security perspective, using L2TP is recommended.

L2TP has a stronger encryption than PPTP. It uses 500 UDP port which may need to be manually opened in your firewall.
